Medical Center Health System has partnered with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) since 1979 to implement a number of residency programs including Family Practice Obstetrics & Gynecology and Internal Medicine along with fellowship programs including Geriatric Medicine, Endocrinology, and Hospitalists. MCHS has also worked with TTUHSC Third and Fourth Year Medical Students since the program was implemented in 2009.
The seventh floor was renovated in 2013-2014 for the Louise and Clay Wood Simulation Center and the Dedicated Teaching Unit. TTUHSC residents and nursing students, and MCHS employees and physicians use the high-tech laboratory in the Simulation Center to learn skills. TTUHSC physicians admit their patients to the Dedicated Teaching Unit and residents and nursing students learn through providing care to these patients.
MCHS and TTUHSC partnered to create a special area for residents and physicians in 2012 called The Bunkhouse. The MCHS Foundation received a contribution from a grateful patient to renovate space on Medical Center Hospital’s second floor for TTUHSC students and residents to socialize, take a break, complete paperwork and study.
