Center for Women & Infants

Bringing a new baby into the world is such an exciting moment and the MCH Center for Women & Infants is honored to be a part of this experience for the many families that have chosen MCH as their birthing partner. In order to offer the most advanced maternity center in the region, MCHS opened the MCH Center for Women & Infants in 2012. The year prior to the new center, 1,091 babies were born at MCH. The year of the opening, births jumped to 1,505. And in 2015, 1,723 little miracles joined their families at the MCH Center for Women & Infants.

The MCH Center for Women & Infants is an impressive facility offering remarkable services for top quality maternity care. The Center features include:

• 12 Labor and Delivery Rooms
• 30 Private Postpartum Rooms
• 20 Newborn Nursery Beds
• 30 Private Neonatal Intensive Care Units

All NICU rooms are private, which promotes better bonding between parents and their new baby. These private rooms can also improve development, healing and growth for our most fragile newborns. Because visitation is allowed 24 hours a day, parents and grandparents are encouraged to visit as often as possible.

The Center for Women & Infants is equipped for any situation that could come up during delivery. There is an Obstetrician/Gynecologists on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And the neonatal intensive care unit is a Level III NICU, serving as the regional referral center for neonatal consultation and care of high-risk newborns throughout the Permian Basin.

The Center for Women & Infants staff is a partner during a family’s preparation for their new baby and offers hands-on childbirth classes, taught by Registered Nurses. Expectant mothers learn breathing techniques, newborn care and breastfeeding tips. Additionally, expectant families are encouraged take a Baby Steps Tour, a one-hour tour of the facility led by a Registered Nurse. Interaction with the Center for Women & Infants staff enables expectant families to really get to know the staff in addition to becoming familiar with the amenities and services.

Support of new families continues after the birth as well. The Center for Women & Infants offers a Newborn Follow-Through program free of charge to new parents, providing the perfect opportunity to discuss any concerns new mothers may have. Telephone consultations are available Monday through Friday by calling (432) 640-BABY. And the Baby Café is a weekly gathering of new mothers with an opportunity to visit with a Certified Lactation Consultant for helpful advice on newborn care and the breastfeeding experience.

The MCH Center for Women & Infants is thoroughly prepared with facility, technology and highly-trained medical personnel. And most importantly, the center is filled with compassionate and dedicated individuals who are passionate about making sure each new family has the best experience possible when bringing their own little miracle into the world.
